Lumbsch & Huhndorf (2010) included 13 families with 74 genera in the Dothideomycetidae. Hyde et al. (2013) noted that this subclass always comprises Capnodiales, Dothideales and Myriangiales. Although, Trypetheliales clusters with Mytilinidiales in phylogenetic analysis, the order does not place it in Pleosporomycetidae due to its unstable placement. The MCC tree indicates that Dothideomycetidae has a stem age at 303 MYA which falls within subclass status as suggested by Liu et al. (2017a).
