Johnston et al. (2014) established Hymenotorrendiella to accommodate nine species clustered with Torrendiella, Lachnella and Zoellneria. Hymenotorrendiella eucalypti is the type species of the genus. Hymenotorrendiella taxa can be distinguished from Torrendiella by having Calycina- or Hymenoscyphus-type asci apical structure and abundant globose content in living paraphyses (Johnston et al. 2014).
