Etymology: Refers to ascospore of this genus has three septa.

Saprobic on dead of on dead or decaying petioles, leaves and wood in terrestrial habitats. Sexual morph: Ascomata  scattered to gregarious, superficial, flat at the base, conspicuous on host surface, not easy to remove, numerous, raised, visible as black dome-shaped on host surface, coriaceous. Ascomata subglobose to lenticular or quadrilateral to dome-shaped, clustered, black, ostiolate. Peridium thick walled, hyaline to dark brown, composed of several layers of cells of textura angularis to prismatica. Pseudoparaphyses hyaline, numerous, filiform, trabeculate pseudoparaphyses. Asci 6–8-spored, bitunicate, broadly clavate, apically rounded with an ocular chamber, short pedicellate. Ascospores 2–3-seriate, fusiform, 3-septate, hyaline, constricted at the septum, enlarged at the second cell, guttulate, surrounded by mucilaginous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
