Belongs to the family Clavicipitaceae and tribe Ustilaginoideae. Asexual morph forms dusty spore masses composed of thick-walled conidia in the flowers of Commelinaceae. The conidia germinate to form filamentous hyphae. Secondary conidia are globose, hyaline.
Type species: Commelinaceomyces aneilematis (S. Ito) E. Tanaka.
