Epiphytic on living leaves, visible as black dots. Hyphae superficial, brown, reticulate. Thyriothecia hypophyllous, dense to subdense, flattened, circular, brown, with an irregular central ostiole. Upper wall brown, comprising meandrous, compact hyphae that anastomosing at central ostiole, lacking a basal plate. Paraphyses filiform, dense. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindrical to clavate. Ascospores overlapping, 2–3 series, cylindrical, 1-septate, slightly constricted at the septum or not, hyaline.

Notes – Stomiopeltis was introduced by Theissen (1914) to accommodate a single species Stomiopeltis aspersa (Berk.) Theiss., which was transferred from Calothyrium (Microthyriaceae) to Micropeltidaceae. The genus is distinguished from other genera in the subfamily Plochmopeltineae by the presence of paraphyses. The type specimen from the K herbarium is in poor condition, and the specimens from the GZU herbarium differ from the type in texture of the upper wall. Nevertheless, the brown upper walls, as well as phylogenetic analyses, both illustrate that Stomiopeltis is a member of Capnodiales.

Type species – Stomiopeltis aspersa (Berk.) Theiss., Brotéria, sér. bot. 12: 85 (1914)
