The order is provisionally kept separate from Dothideales s.lat., until we have molecular data from more representatives of that order and from Pyrenulales. They have been assumed to be more closely related to “Melanommatales” than to “Pleosporales” and some other orders included in Dothideales s.lat. (Eriksson & Hawksworth 1993), but molecular data from several representatives of these loculoascomycete orders indicate that they are closely related, and it is probable that Pyrenulales will cluster with that group when molecular data will be available for inclusion in the analyses.
