Etymology: From Latin Populus, meaning civilians, and referring to the fact that the fungus was collected during a Citizen Science project of the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute. Vegetative hyphae hyaline, septate, smooth. Conidiophores micronematous, mostly reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells monophialidic, aggregated in groups, hyaline, smooth, cylindrical to lageniform. Conidia aseptate, cylindrical, solitary, hyaline.
