Mangifericola hongheensis E.F. Yang & S. Tibpromma, sp. nov..

MycoBank number: MB; Index Fungorum number: IF; Facesoffungi number: FoF 10594;

Saprobic on decayed branch of Mangifera indica. Sexual morph: Ascomata 161–224 μm (x̅ = 193 μm, n = 20) high, 222–296 μm (x̅ = 259 μm, n = 20) diam., scattered to gregarious, dome shaped, semi-immersed, appearing as dark black raised regions on host surface, without papillate, with ostiole at centre. Peridium 31–51 µm wide, composed of several layers, apical area more darken in pigments and thicker, exposed, multilayer, the inner layers comprising of hyaline and thick-walled cells of textura angularis, the outer layers almost disappear at bottom where fused with host. Hamathecium 1–2 μm wide, hyaline, anastomosis, filamentous, septate, branched, cellular, embeded in a glutinous matrix, pseudoparaphyses. Asci 92–115 × 8–12 μm (x̅ = 104 × 10 μm, n = 30), eight-spored, bitunicate, 1-2 seriate, fissitunicate, cylindrical-clavate, with a clear pedicel, visible a well-developed ocular chamber when young, sometimes markedly constricted near apical region when mature, short pedicellate, sometimes absent. Ascospores 14–17 × 4–7.5 μm (x̅ = 15 × 6 μm, n = 20), ovoid, hyaline, 1-septate in the middle, boarden at upper region, rounded at both ends, or acute at the bottom, granules, smooth-walled, not surrounded by a mucilaginous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Material examined: CHINA, Yunnan Province, Honghe Menglong village on decayed branch of Mangifera indica,(102 ° 50’11”E, 23°41’01’’N, 812.6 m), 22 December 2020, E.F. Yang, erfu2 (KUN-HKAS 122191, holptype), living culture, KUMCC 21-0340. ex-type culture KUMCC 21-0344.

Note: Mangifericola hongheensis mainly established by unique ascospore, unequal cells in each, fusiform to ovoid when its young, the upper cell becoming bigger, round, below cell narrow,with blunt/ acute ends when its mature, hyaline, bitunicate, strongly marked at the septum. The phylogenetic analyses in Pleosporales fllowed Zhang et al. (2018), and the multi-phylologenetic tree (ML and BI) fully match with the Blastn results, the our isolate M. hongheensis KUMCC 21-0340 generic placement near and separated well with Neomassariaceae ssp., Massariaceae spp. and Delitschiaceae spp. with high bootstrap support value (100 % ML, 1 BI), the genus Neomassaria was introduced by Hyde et al. (2016) and Ariyawansa et al. (2018), but quite different with our genus species in morphlogy as well, therefore we introduce M. hongheensis KUMCC 21-0340 as holotype of novel monotypic genus Mangifericola.
