MycoBank number: MB 1539; Index Fungorum number: IF 1539; Facesoffungi number: FoF 05132, 4 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), No molecular data available.
Epiphytic on living leaves, hypophyllous, visible as black dots. Hyphae superficial, hyaline, hard to detect. Ascomata superficial, solitary, gregarious, subdense, black, flattened, circular, dimidiate, with a circular central ostiole. Upper wall blackish green, membranous, comprising overlapping, compact, pseudoparenchymatous hyphae with textura intricata, lacking a basal plate. Hamathecium comprising asci inclined from the base towards the ostiole. Paraphyses filiform, hyaline, embedded in a gelatinous matrix. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, cylindrical, short pedicel or absent. Ascospores overlapping, 2-seriate, cylindrical to ellipsoid, aseptate, hyaline. (adapted from Zheng et al. 2019).
Type species: Dictyothyrina fecunda (Sacc.) Theiss.
Notes: Dictyothyrina is characterized by superficial, solitary ascomata, filiform paraphyses, cylindrical, short pedicellate asci and cylindrical to ellipsoid, aseptate, hyaline ascospores. Theissen (1913) placed Dictyothyrina in Hemisphaeriaceae (Hemisphaeriales). Zeng et al. (2019) accepted Dictyothyrina in Micropeltidaceae based on its greenish, pseudoparenchymatous upper wall. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm this taxonomic placement.
