Type speciesZalaria obscura Visagie, Z. Humphries & Seifert.

Notes – Humphries et al. (2017) established the genus with two new species, Zalaria alba and Z. obscura. These species are black yeast-like terrestrial taxa, which grow restrictedly and produce conidiogenous cells with holoblastic synchronous or percurrent conidiation. Zalaria is closely related to Hormonema in having only one to two loci per conidiogenous cell, but Zalaria is different as it generally has a more restricted growth. No sexual morph has been reported for Zalaria (Humphries et al. 2017).
