Savitreea (Sa.vi.tree′a. N.L. fem. n. Savitreea named in honour of Professor Savitree Limtong, in recognition of her major contributions to yeast systematics in Thailand).

Cells are ellipsoid and grow by multilateral budding. Pseudo- hyphae are produced. Ascospore formation is not observed. DBB and urease reactions are negative. Starch-like compounds are not produced.

Phylogenetic placement: Saccharomycetaceae, Saccharomyc- etales, Saccharomycotina, Ascomycota.

The type species of the genus is Savitreea pentosicarens Sakpuntoon, Angchuan, Boonmak, Khunnamwong, Jacques, Grondin, Casaregola and Srisuk sp. nov.
