NotesMytilinidion was established by Duby (1862) with an etymology from Mytilus, a genus of mussels. There are 36 recognised species, occurring on the Pinaceae, Cupressaceae, and Taxodiaceae (Lohman 1932, Zogg 1962, Speer 1986, Barr 1990b, Jayasiri et al. 2018). Mytilinidion species are characterised by yellow to reddish brown, ellipsoid, fusoid, obovoid to elongate, transversely septate, symmetric, ascospores, or scolecospores, thin-walled, globoid to conchate hysterothecia, with lateral walls more or less connivent and extended vertically to a cristate apex (Boehm et al. 2009a).
