Type species – Microthecium zobelii Corda
Notes – Microthecium was introduced by Corda (1842) with M. zobelii as the type species, found on Rhizopogon albus in Germany. The genus is characterised by yellowish to reddish, globose ascomata and short necks or necks lacking, with setae around the ostiole, clavate and evanescent asci, fusiform, navicular, citriform, plataniform or spindle-shaped ascospores, which are hyaline and become brown to dark brown when mature, with a terminal apiculate or depressed germ pore at each end. The asexual morph comprises hyaline phialides with pale orange to reddish- orange conidia.
