Etym.: species name refers to fragile, straight and unbranched hyphae.

Colonies on MEA at 28°C attaining 6 mm diam in 14 d, smooth, black, with narrow, white marginal zone. Hyphae melanized, regularly 4 µm wide and septate every 9µm, with numerous short anastomoses between adjacent hyphal cells; anastomoses nearly equally wide as the hyphae. Some dark, isodiametrically inflating, meristematic clumps of cells with irregular septation present. Specialized conidia absent. Sexual state unknown.

Holotype: CBS 129047, vial preserved in metabolically inactive state under liquid nitrogen, isolated from carton of a Crematogaster sp. (Formicidae, Myrmicinae) ant nest, Thailand, Khao Luong National Park, 19 Feb. 2010, H. Voglmayr. Ex-type culture CBS 129047.
