Type speciesAmazonotheca santiriae Bat. & H. Maia., in Batista, Publicações Inst. Micol. Recife 56: 408 (1959).

NotesAmazonotheca was introduced to accommodate epiphytic species, characterized by dispersed, brown yellowish, membranous ascomata, translucent in structure, with hyaline, prosenchymatous cells of peridium, 4–8-spored, bitunicate, subglobose to ovoid asci and brown, subcylindrical, 2-septate ascospores (Batista 1959, Phookamsak et al. 2016). Phookamsak et al. (2016) re-described the genus based on the description of Batista (1959) and treated it in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis. However, Wijayawardene et al. (2018) tentatively reinstated the genus in Schizothyriaceae pending future studies. Amazonotheca is a poorly known genus with two species A. olivacea and A. santiriae collected from the leaves of Neea madeirana and Santiria nitida in Brazil, respectively. The genus lacks modern taxonomic description and molecular data to clarify its phylogenetic affinities. The generic type is located in the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (URM), Brazil, but the type specimen could not be loaned. Recollection and molecular data of Amazonotheca are required to resolve its natural placement.
