Etymology: aestuari from estuary, the habit of the species
Holotype: MFLU 15–3543
Saprobic on Phragmites communis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. Sexual morph Undetermined. Asexual morph Conidiomata 300 – 400 μm high × 200 – 250 μm diam. (x̄ = 347.9 × 223.2 μm, n = 10), pycnidial, stromatic, mostly solitary, semi – immersed to immersed in the host, uni- to multi – loculate, globose to subglobose, dark brown to black, ostiolate, apapillate. Peridium 5 – 10 μm wide at the base, 7 – 12 μm wide in sides, comprising 2 – 3 layers, pigmented, thin – walled, comprising blackish to dark brown, angular cells. Conidiogenous cells 5 – 8 μm high × 2 – 4μm wide, phialidic, discrete, ampulliform to cylindric-clavate, hyaline, aseptate, smooth. Conidia 7 – 12 × 2.5 – 3.5 μm (x̄ = 9.6 × 2.8 μm, n = 50), hyaline, 1 – celled, oblong to cylindrical, with rounded or obtuse ends, transversely euseptate, smooth and thin – walled, guttulate.
Material examined: UK, Lanstephan, 8 July 2015, on Phragmites communis (Poacaeae), E.B.G. Jones (MFLU15–3543, holotype); ex-type culture, MFLUCC 15–1274, MUCL.
