Type speciesScedosporium apiospermum Sacc. ex Castell. & Chalm.

NotesScedosporium is a ubiquitous filamentous genus with a wide host range and worldwide distribution (Wijayawardene et al. 2017a). The genus is characterized by hyaline, cylindrical conidiogenous cells arising from undifferentiated hyphae, with obovoidal, hyaline, sticky conidia. Graphium-like synnemata are formed with large, erect bundles of hyphae terminating in a dense aggregate of conidiogenous cells. The asexual morphs produce conidia from a short extension of the conidiogenous cells with annellidic development (Guého E. & De Hoog 1991, Lackner et al. 2014, Ramirez-Garcia et al. 2018). The genus was accepted in Microascaceae by Sandoval-Denis et al. (2016a), Maharachchikumbura et al. (2015, 2016b) and Wijayawardene et al. (2017a, 2018a).
