Rhexoacrodictys was introduced by Baker et al. (2002) to accommodate species previously identified as Acorcdictys (i.e., A. erecta, A. fimicola, A. fuliginosa and A. queenslandica) and wherein Rhexoacrodictys erecta was designated as the type. Two additional species R. martini and R. broussonetiae were subsequently added to the genus based on morphological characteristics (Delgado 2009; Xiao et al. 2018). While R. martini and R. queenslandica were transferred to Distoseptispora and Junewangia based on phylogenetic analysis (Xia et al. 2017). Currently, four species are accepted in Rhexoacrodictys (R. broussonetiae, R. erecta, R.
fimicola, and R. fuliginosa).
Species
