Type species – Paravalsa indica Ananthap.

Notes – Paravalsa was introduced as monotypic genus to accommodate P. indica, which was found on bark in Tamil Nadu (Ananthapadmanaban 1990). The genus is characterised by a lack of stromata, solitary perithecia immersed under host tissues with prominent necks, 8-spored, clavate, J- asci and 1-celled, allantoid ascospores (Ananthapadmanaban 1990).
