Saprobic on submerged decaying wood. Asexual morph: Colonies superficial, effuse, scattered, hairy, brown. Mycelium mostly immersed, composed of branched, septate, smooth, pale brown hyphae. Conidiophores 120–200 × 2.9–3.9 µm (x̅ = 161.4 × 3.6 µm, n = 25), macronematous, mononematous, subcylindrical, straight or flexuous, unbranched, brown at the base, paler towards the apex, septate, verrucose. Conidiogenous cells polyblastic, integrated, terminal and intercalary, sympodial, forming a rachis with numerous pimple-like denticles, subhyaline to pale brown. Conidia 5.7–8.1 × 2.6–3.5 µm (x̅ = 7 × 3.1 µm, n = 40), solitary, aseptate, pale brown, ellipsoid or elongated oval, smooth to finely verrucose, thin-walled, rounded at the apex. Sexual morph: Undetermined.
Culture characteristics – Conidia germinating on PDA within 12 h, and germ tubes produced from the base. Colonies on PDA reaching 30 mm diameter after 3 weeks at room temperature. Mycelium dense, dry, colonies on the surface of PDA, slightly crease, with regular edges, flat surface, brown. Reverse brown to reddish brown, circular, smooth.
Material examined – China, Yunnan Province, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Bamei Town, on submerged decaying wood, 7 February 2022, W.P. Wang, H-706 (HKAS 130439).
Notes – Pararamichloridium caricicola was introduced by Crous et al. (2018), and collected from Thailand on a leaf of Carex sp. (Cyperaceae). In the phylogenetic analysis, our new collection (HKAS 130439) clustered with P. caricicola (CPC 34533) with 100 ML/1.00 PP support (Fig. 2). In addition, our new collection fits well with the original description of P. caricicola. Therefore, we identify our new collection as P. caricicola, and it was collected from China for the first time.

Figure 2 – RAxML tree based on analysis of Ophioceraceae and Pararamichlordiaceae that combined LSU and ITS dataset. The combined analyses include 31 strains with 1370 characters including gaps (LSU: 839 bp and ITS: 531 bp). Bootstrap support values for maximum likelihood (ML) greater than 75% and Bayesian posterior probabilities greater than 0.95 are indicated above branches as ML/PP. The tree is rooted with Diaporthe inconspocua (CBS 133813). The new collections are indicated in red. Ex-type strains are indicated with “T” after the strain number.
