Synonym: Coprinarius fimicola (Fr.) P. Kumm., Der Führer in die Pilzkunde: 69 (1871)

Pileus  1.5 – 3.0 cm in diameter, subglobose to convex, rarely papillate, surface sepia, drying brown with a darker marginal zone, striate when moist. Flesh moderately thick, roughly coarse and fibrous. Stipe length 3.0 – 6.0cm × 0.1– 0.5 cm in diameter, slender, cylindric, fistulose, pale- brownish to fuscous, finely striate, equal.  Lamellae  broadly adnate, grey, soon black, moderately spaced. Spores dark greyish- brown to brownish- black,lenticular, ovate- elliptic,  ellipsoid or spindle shaped , smooth, 11.5 – 15.0 × 8.5 – 10.0µm,opaque,truncated by an apical germ pore .Basidia clavate, 4-spored.Lamella edge sterile with crowded cheilocystidia. Pleurocystidia absent.
