Neodictyocheirospora W.H. Tian, K.D. Hyde & Maharachch., in Tian, Liu, Jin, Chen, Zhou, Wu, Su, Guo, Wanasinghe, Hyde, Liu & Maharachchikumbura, Mycosphere 15(1): 1843 (2024)

Index Fungorum number: IF 851880; MycoBank number: MB 851880; Facesoffungi number: FoF16268

Etymology – Named after its morphological similarity to Dictyocheirospora.

Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Colonies sporodochia, punctiform, superficial, scattered. Conidiophores present or reduced to conidiogenous cells, micronematous, simple or branched, pale brown, smooth, thin-walled. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, integrated, terminal, sometimes flat at the base, smooth, and brown. Conidia acrogenous, holoblastic, solitary, cheiroid, oval to ellipsoid or irregular-shaped, complanate, brown, euseptate or distoseptate, smooth-walled, with 5–15 vertical rows of subglobose cells, each row with 5–20 cells, rows not separating, smooth, with or without appendages. Sexual morph: Undetermined.

Type species – Neodictyocheirospora appendiculata W.H. Tian, K.D. Hyde & Maharachch.

Notes – The new genus contains two species, Neodictyocheirospora appendiculata and Neodictyocheirospora sichuanensis, forming a distinct subclade in Helotiales in the phylogenetic analyses. The sexual morph of Neodictyocheirospora is undetermined, and the asexual morph has a unique morphology compared to those phylogenetically related species in Helotiales. Neodictyocheirospora is characterized by its acrogenous, solitary, brown, oval to ellipsoid or irregular-shaped, palmate or dictyosporous conidia.
