Type speciesFalciformispora lignatilis K.D. Hyde, Mycol. Res. 96(1): 27 (1992).

NotesFalciformispora was introduced for a single species found on intertidal mangrove wood. This genus is unique in having subglobose to ovoid, erumpent and eventually superficial ascomata by sloughing off of the upper woody cells, asci arising from ascogenous tissue at the base of the ascoma, and hyaline, straight or slightly curved, 6-(7)-8-septate ascospores, that are slightly constricted at the septa and surrounded by a thin mucilaginous sheath and a single scythe-like appendage at the base (Hyde 1992). There are four species within this genus with sequence data, F. lignatilis, F. senegalensis, F. tompkinsii and F. uttaraditensis, and their placement within Trematosphaeriaceae is clear (Ahmed et al. 2014b, Hyde et al. 2020b).
