Diaporthe amberina A.L. Jia & X.L. Fan, in Cao et al., Fungal Diversity 132: 475 (2025)
Index Fungorum number: IF 571934; MycoBank number: MB 571934; Facesoffungi number: FoF 17098; Fig. 1
Etymology – named after the color of colony amber.
Holotype – CFCC 70615.
Description – Culture sterile. On PDA, hyphae septate. Colonies covering the Petri dish after 21 d at 25 °C. Cultures on PDA initially white, irregular. Colonies thin with a uniform texture, lacking aerial mycelium, growing slowly up to 3 cm after 3 d and becoming amber after 7 d, entirely covering the 6 cm Petri dish after 21 d. Colonies flat with a uniform texture, colony margin irregular. Conidiomata not observed on medium surface after 30 d.
Materials examined – CHINA, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Baise City, isolated from fruits of Mangifera indica, Aug. 2022, living culture CFCC 70615 (holotype), living culture CFCC 70616.
GenBank – CFCC 70615: PP741456 (ITS), PP741960 (cal), PP741965 (his3), PP741970 (tef1), PP741975 (tub2); CFCC 70616: PP741457 (ITS), PP741961 (cal), PP741966 (his3), PP741971 (tef1), PP741976 (tub2); Supplementary data, Online Resource 2.
Notes – Diaporthe amberina was isolated from fruits of Mangifera indica with symptoms in China. Phylogenetically (Supplementary data, Online Resource 1), Diaporthe amberina is close to D. acuta but it can be distinguished from D. acuta by the difference of sequences: 28/531 in ITS, 8/456 in cal, 11/440 in his3, 20/253 in tef1 and 18/387 in tub2 (Guo et al. 2020). The isolates CFCC 70615 and 70,616 form a distinct clade with high support value (ML/BI = 100/1). Therefore, we introduce it here as a new species.
