Index Fungorum number: IF 1256;MycoBank number:MB 1256; Facesoffungi number: FoF 13035; 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2020), 2 species with sequence data.

Type speciesCorynascella humicola Arx & Hodges.

NotesCorynascella was introduced by von Arx (1975) to accommodate the single species C. humicola, in which the ascospores have strikingly thickened walls around the germ pores. This genus was shown to cluster in a separate branch in phylogenetic analysis (van den Brink et 2012, Maharachchikumbura et al. 2015, Wang et al. 2016a, 2019b). The genus is characterised by superficial, sphaerical, cleistothecial ascomata, covered with dark, septate, appendage-like hairs, broadly clavate or obovate, thin-walled, evanescent asci and ellipsoidal, sphaerical or reniform, 1- celled ascospores, rounded at the ends and with a large de Bary bubble, and 2(-4) apical germ pores (von Arx 1975).
