Notes – The genus Choiromyces with C. meandriformis Vittad. as the type species was first described in 1831 (Vittadini 1831). It is interesting that species of Tuber are incredibly diverse across the Northern Hemisphere, and yet, in contrast, the genus Choiromyces includes just a few relatively rare but geographically widespread species (Bonito and Smith 2016; Wang et al. 2022). The latest Phylogenetic analysis showed that the genus has at least nine species, six of which have been described and accepted, including C. cerebriformis T.J. Yuan, S.H. Li & Y. Wang, C. helanshanensis Juan Chen & P.G. Liu, C. sichuanensis S.P. Wan, R. Wang, C. alveolatus (Harkn.) Trappe, C. venosus (Fr.) Th. Fr (= C. meandriformis Vittad.), and C. magnusii (Mattir.) Paol. (Trappe 1975; Pegler et al. 1993; McNeill 2012; Moreno et al. 2012; Chen et al. 2016; Yuan et al. 2021; Wang et al. 2022). Although wang et al. (2022) presented systematic analyses of Choiromyces based on sequences from ITS genes, comprehensive studies on this genus are still lacking.
