Calonectria shenzhenensis Y. X. Zhang, C. T. Chen & Manawas.

Index Fungorum number: IF; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11344

Etymology – Epithet refers to the Shenzhen city from where the type was collected.

Holotype – ZHKU 21-0067

Culture characteristics: Colonies slowly growing at 25 ℃ on MEA, growth rate 7.4 mm/d (n = 5), circular with irregular margin, producing abundant white aerial mycelium; the other side orange.

Material examined: China, Guangdong province, Shenzhen city, Strelitzia reginae Aito, (Musaceae). 30th November 2020, C.T. Chen (dried cultures ZHKU 21-0067 holotype; ZHKU 21-0068 paratype), and living culture, ZHKUCC 21-0070 ex–holotype; ZHKUCC 21-0071 ex–paratype.

Notes: Two isolates obtained in this study developed a distinct clade in Ca. pteridii species complex with 97 % ML, 47 % MP and 0.79 BYPP values. However, these isolates are sterile as they did not develop teleomorph or anamorph in CLA, SNA (synthetic low-nutrient agar), and MEA media after incubating for 30 days. In PHI analysis, these isolates did not provide significant evidence of recombination. Based on molecular phylogeny and recombination analysis, we introduce Calonectria shenzhenensis, a novel species from Strelitzia reginae.
