Aquimonospora J. Yang & K.D. Hyde, gen. nov., Index Fungorum number: IF 555777

Etymology: Referring to the aquatic habitat and monoblastic conidiogenous cells.

Saprobic on decaying wood substrates. Asexual morph: Colonies on natural substratum effuse, hairy, scattered, dark brown, velvety, glistening. Mycelium partly immersed, partly superficial, composed of pale brown, septate hyphae. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, single, erect, straight or slightly flexuous, smooth, mid to dark brown, septate, unbranched. Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal, monoblastic, pale brown, smooth, cylindrical, percurrently proliferating. Conidia acrogenous, solitary, clavate, obovoid or fusiform, euseptate, dark brown in the middle cell between two mid brown cells in the upper part, pale brown and semi-transparent at the lower two cells, internally bearing next conidial primordium at the lower cells. New young conidium is sometimes projected out through lower cells. Sexual morph: Undetermined.

Type species: Aquimonospora tratensis J. Yang & K.D. Hyde

Fig. Maximum likelihood majority rule consensus tree based on a combined LSU, SSU and RPB2 sequence alignment. ML bootstrap proportion greater than 75% and Bayesian posterior probabilities above 0.95 are indicated above the nodes as BP/PP. The scale bar represents the expected number of changes per site. The tree is rooted with Leotia lubrica (AFTOL-ID 1) and Microglossum rufum (AFTOL-ID 1292). The strain numbers are noted after the species names. The new taxa are in bold. Branches with 100% ML BP and 1.0 PP are shown as black nodes, families are indicated in colored blocks.
